Tumor markers are substances found in higher than normal concentrations in the blood, urine or body tissues of patients with certain types of cancers. To help physicians monitor mesothelioma, the MESOMARK^®assay can be used in conjunction with other techniques to measure the concentration of the biomarker, Soluble Mesothelin-Related Peptide (SMRP), in serum.

The MESOMARK test kit, manufactured by Fujirebio Diagnostics, Inc., is the first blood test developed for the measurement of SMRP in serum. It is followed over time and may be useful for the monitoring of individuals with the greatest risk of developing mesothelioma and for the monitoring of patients with confirmed mesothelioma.

The MESOMARK test results are recommended for interpretation along with other clinical, laboratory, and imaging data before final conclusions can be made.
